As a kid, Maya chanced upon a VH1: Behind the Music special featuring the Carpenters and was deeply inspired by image of Karen Carpenter drumming, the first woman she had even seen behind the kit.
After 7 years of junior and high school marching band, Maya moved from her San Francisco Bay Area roots down to southern California for college. It was there she met fellow musicians Adam Castilla, Kollin Johannsen and Justin Wagner, forming The indie rock band Colourist, in which both Tuttle and Castilla serve as lead vocalists. The band’s performance of their single “Little Games” was featured in a national commercial for AT&T/Nokia in September 2013. More here
